Our Mathematics Curriculum
Where we calculate, problem solve and reason
At Sandal Castle School, we want all our pupils to experience deep, sustained understanding so that they become happy and confident mathematicians, throughout their learning and into their adult life. Through a positive, caring environment, we nurture confidence in the subject and a love of mathematics, to enable every child to reach their full potential. We promote a ‘can do’ attitude to Maths without a fear of making mistakes. Children are given time, support and resources to develop a depth of understanding where children can express ideas fluently and talk about the subject using appropriate mathematical language. Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem-solving skills and the ability to think in abstract ways. Mathematics is important in everyday life. It is integral to all aspects of life, and we endeavour to ensure that children develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics that will stay with them.
We follow White Rose Maths throughout school. Daily sessions of Mastering Number are taught from EYFS - Year 5.
Diamond Dash
Diamond Dash is a new maths challenge to support children in becoming fluent with their times tables upto 12 X 12. Children will be given regular opportunities to move up the diamonds as they complete each multiplication challenge. There are 12 levels (gems) to complete. You can access the exact tasks that the children will use to move up levels below to practise at home.
Infinity - White Rose Maths

We are using Infinity as our weekly mathematics homework. Infinity aligns directly with the child's learning and is created by White Rose Maths which is our main scheme of learning across school.

Times Tables Rockstars

Every child in school has access to Times Table Rockstars. Regular use of TTRS is hugely beneficial in aiding children to recall their multiplication facts fluently.
Our Classroom Expectations
Non-negotiable classroom manipulatives
All of our classrooms follow a consistent working wall layout, which must include: a modelled example, the learning objective, key vocabulary and one or two stem sentences.
