Writing in Early Years Foundation Stage

In EYFS we are great writers. Writing is at the heart of all of our learning and can be found in all provision areas.

We follow the principles of Drawing Club to aid our writing lessons and ensure all sessions are fun, link to play and explicitly teach communication, vocabulary, letter formation and word building. We link our writing with our phonics learning using RWI rhymes to help us with letter formation and spelling.

Our children love drawing their ideas and then writing their magic codes to bring their learning alive.

Handwriting is taught both independently and during writing activities. All children access handwriting sessions that are tailored to their individual needs. We have lots of gross and fine motor activities available through provision and intervention is put in place swiftly to help all children make progress on their learning journey.

EYFS writing spine can be seen below with some examples of wonderful FS writing.
