What our students think about writing at Sandal Castle

These are some of the comments our students shared at our March writing pupil voice session:

Child in reception – I love learning my letters. My teacher makes writing fun when we use the magic code.

Child in year 1 – I enjoy asking questions and writing sentences. My teacher helps me by modelling on the board so I can see what a good one looks like.

Child in year 2 – I enjoy dictated sentences and handwriting lessons. We look at each other's work to get extra ideas, which is fun.

Child in year 3 – I am now more independent with my writing but know my teacher is there if I need her. I find my hold a sentence group really helpful so I can get all my ideas written down. My favourite thing to do is use adjectives in a setting description.

Child in year 4 – I love adding a bit of spice to the end of my writing. My teacher helps me by suggesting I go back and look at my writing again. I love vocabulary lessons as I learn new words and how I can use them in my writing. I am proud of my handwriting. It has improved a lot this year.

Child in year 5 – I enjoy using different texts to help with my writing. I learn lots of new vocabulary and have made lots of progress. My writing flows better now because I use more punctuation. My handwriting is neater and I have earned my pen licence.

Child in year 6 – I really enjoy editing lessons, I like to improve my work and then share it with others. When my teacher models writing on the board, it gives me ideas and helps me to practice new skills. They help me focus on what I need to do. I feel proud that I am pushing myself to be the best writer I can be.
