Sports within the Community
We are extremely fortunate to work alongside many local sporting establishments. Our children benefit greatly from having the opportunities to work alongside these professionals who provide specialist support and coaching developing skills and expertise across a range of sports and activities.
White Rose Cheer is based in Gildersome, Leeds (LS27 7BF) and are a Nationally and Internationally ranked Competitive Stunt Cheerleading program. We are always looking for new members. Cheerleading is the fastest growing sport in the UK for girls. Modern, all-star cheerleading is an exciting hybrid of acrobatic stunts, gymnastic tumbling, and dance. It's a team sport like no other, and fosters trust, reliability, resilience, confidence, and friendships for life.
We compete around 4-5 times a year (pre-Covid!) and next academic year have plans to take our squads to Barcelona, Germany, and Texas, USA, amongst all our local regional events. We accept all ages from Reception through to adult on our competitive squads, and are an inclusive club. There's no try out process and everybody is accepted into a team. We train in a purpose built facility which is fully equipped for all abilities and levels, and all our coaches are DBS checked, qualified to the top level within our sport, and first aid trained. If any of your parents wish to, they can fill out a two-minute Interest Form and we will be in touch. They can do this following the link below: https://forms.gle/HrKCH8wnFtHkB5sG9

Children in year 3 experienced an exciting afternoon of sporting fun led by Wakefield Trinity coach, Chris Chester, Jacob Miller and Danny Brough, all professionals within the team. The session concluded with a question and answer session.

Wakefield Trinity - Wakefield Trinity provide block teaching across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 throughout the year. The children also experience visits to the Belle Vue Stadium, taking part in curtain raisers to the professional Super League games. They also take part in a number of tournaments and festivals held at the ground. Our children were also fortunate to 'Walk out of the tunnel' with the players acting as mascots at the televised Super League Game again Hull.
Leeds Rhinos V Wakefield Trinity
On Friday evening (17th March) some of our Key Stage 2 children had an amazing and exciting opportunity; representing our school, as flag bearers for the Leeds Rhinos V Wakefield Trinity rugby league match, live at the Headingley Stadium. This was the first time most of our children had visited the stadium and for some of them, the first time they had experienced a live super league match (televised on Sky Sports)
The children were a credit to themselves, their families and the school. They had a fantastic time and loved taking part in such an event, especially knowing they are going to be on TV!

DanceXpolsion - DanceXplosion Dance Academy, based at Belle Vue Stadium with a focus on getting children active and having the opportunity to participate in performances on a match day. Jodie Travis, the Academy owner runs a schools programme of which we have been fortunate enough to be part of. This has been wonderful for our children as it has enabled some of our talented dancers to be selected for the troop performing on match days.
What our visiting coaches have to say about our wonderful children:
The children at Sandal Castle are a pleasure to coach and always challenge our coaching team with their never say die approach to sports! The children are very coachable and take on information very quickly which enables us to get straight into a skill then small sided games! The improvement in movement skills over the past 5 weeks has been amazing and we are really looking forward to seeing these children take the sport to the next level, whether that’s in the community or a professional sports team!
