‘Together we grow: Together we give’. Ezekiel 47:2
We are a school community and we are a family. We learn together, we support each other, we give our time, our kindness, our love and our compassion to those around us in our school and wider community. We help each other to be ourselves and to be proud of it and to grow in to the unique individuals we are, and as a result, we grow into the respectful and accepting community we all value so much- we are there for each other on each step of our journey.
About Our School
Sandal Endowed CE VA Junior School was established in 1686. It has been situated at the current junior site on Barnsley Road since 1747, where it has served many generations of the Sandal Community.
The federation of Castle Grove Infant School and Sandal Endowed CE (VA) Junior School began in September 2009 when Nichola Russell, the Head Teacher at Castle Grove, became Head of both schools. Staff at both schools worked closely to develop a creative curriculum to ensure continuity, progression and challenge for all our children. The longer term plan was to formally amalgamate on one site to provide greater opportunities to share best practice, smooth transition and build a shared ethos.
The New School
Building work was completed as of Easter 2015 with Sandal Castle VA Community Primary School opening in April 2015. A time capsule including all the wonderful ideas suggested by our children and parents has been placed in the footings of the build.
Children and staff are thoroughly enjoying being together on one site. The closure of Castle Grove was an emotional event but we have so many fantastic memories to bring with us and many more memories to make together.
The official opening of the school in July 2015 focused on celebrating the journey our children, parents, staff, governors and community have been on. Children performed their 'Sing Up' songs , Bishop Tony Robinson blessed the school, parents and community members attended in their hundreds to watch ex pupil Leon Boyle officially cut the ribbon with Revd Rupert Martin capturing the celebrations with the fantastic photographs.
A momentous year culminating not only in our beautiful, unique and bespoke school but also recognition from Ofsted that Sandal Castle VA Community Primary is a GOOD school where our spiritual, moral, social and cultural values underpin every decision we make.
