Welcome to Year 6!

In Year 6, our class teachers are Mrs Gorse, Mrs Hossack, Mrs Haigh and Miss Goodwin. We will be learning about lots of exciting things over the academic year, including World War II and the Ancient Maya Civilisation in History and the Circulatory System in Science. Have a look at some of the things we have been doing in our lessons this half term...

Science

In Science we have been learning about Living things and their Habitats. We worked in groups to create our own classification keys and categorised animals in a variety of ways, based on their individual characteristics. We also completed an investigation over time, all about micro-organisms and how bacteria can spread. 

Geography

During our fieldtrip to Sandal Castle, we investigated the site to observe and record geographical features. We identified both physical features, such as grassy slopes and trees, and human features, including castle walls and pathways. We considered how to describe these features accurately using a range of geographical vocabulary. Through a range of activities, including landscape sketching, an observation and recording task, and a Castle Clues Quest (historical fact trail), we developed our understanding of how people interact with the landscape and how geography and history can be so closely connected. It was a great way to learn like real geographers!

In Design Technology this half-term we have enjoyed creating and designing our own playground structures. Following each class receiving a design brief from Wakefield Council, the children were tasked to think about what they would include on their own playground and consider how the mechanics of each apparatus would work to ensure it was safe.
