Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 5 – a year full of exciting challenges, creativity, and opportunities to shine. At our school, everything we do is guided by our vision and values: inclusion, creativity, resilience, respect and understanding. These values shape our learning, our friendships and the way we celebrate each other’s successes.
In Year 5, we believe every child has the potential to thrive. We set high expectations for learning and attitudes, encouraging children to take pride in their achievements and persevere when faced with challenges. Through a rich and engaging curriculum, we foster curiosity and creativity, giving children the confidence to explore new ideas and discover their strengths.
We place a strong emphasis on inclusion, ensuring every child feels valued and supported, and we nurture respect and understanding in everything we do. Together, we create a classroom community where kindness, resilience and a love of learning are at the heart of every day.
Most importantly, we want children to enjoy their learning journey. Year 5 will be a time of fun, challenge and growth – where laughter, teamwork and high aspirations go hand in hand.

Together, we bring a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to providing the very best for our pupils. As experienced teachers, we understand the expectations of the Year 5 curriculum and know how to guide children through this important stage of their learning journey.
We pride ourselves on being dynamic in our teaching, compassionate in our care, and always focused on building strong relationships with the children and their families. Our team is dedicated to creating an environment where children feel safe to take risks, are encouraged to be resilient, and are inspired to achieve their best.
Above all, we are kind and approachable, ensuring that every child feels valued and supported, and that Year 5 is a place where both fun and high achievement go side by side.
Our Learning Environment:
Year 5 classrooms are bright, newly decorated, and equipped with the latest technology. Each day begins with the One Life programme, where teachers greet children individually for a calm, positive start. We encourage healthy habits, like drinking water, to keep pupils focused and energised. Our organised, welcoming classrooms create a supportive space where children feel confident, inspired, and ready to do their best.
Here are our Year 5 classrooms.
Our Curriculum Plans for 2025/2026:
In Year 5, we follow the National Curriculum to provide a broad and balanced education that inspires curiosity and deepens knowledge. Over the year, children will explore a wide range of exciting topics, including The Vikings, developing their historical enquiry skills and understanding of how past societies have shaped Britain; South America, where they will build geographical knowledge, map skills and an appreciation of diverse cultures; and Earth & Space, linking scientific enquiry with the wonders of our universe.
Alongside classroom learning, children will enjoy a variety of enriching experiences. During the year, they will have the opportunity to go on a class trip, supporting their learning beyond the classroom and developing independence and teamwork. They will take part in a VR workshop on space, bringing science to life and helping them visualise complex concepts in an exciting, interactive way. A visit to our local library will also encourage a love of reading, strengthen research skills, and build confidence in using community resources.
You can find a full overview of our learning in the long-term plan below, and keep up to date with current topics and key information in our latest newsletter at the bottom of this page.
